 Siberian Larch
Larch Facts
- Beautiful to look at
- Excellent durability
- Slow grown high-density
- Environmently friendly
Siberian Larch (Larix Sibercia), rates as one of the most durable of softwood species, rich in lignum and resin to give it its excellent durability, wear resistance and resistance to impact damage. Current standing of stocks of larch are estimated at over 30 billion m3 and still "growing".
Properties
Colour varies from light yellow - orange - gold - brown heatwood. Siberian Larch is one of the most durable species of coniferous wood. Owing to its slow growth rate it has an unusual durability for a softwood with a density of 700 - 800 kg.m3 - dry wood. Owing to its high density, Larch has an excellent wear/impact resistance ideal for cladding areas where impact damage may occur i.e. Schools, Shopping areas, Public Walkways etc.
Durability
Class 111 (based upon average of European and Russian Larch). Experience has shown that Siberian Larch is much more durable.
10 - 15 years in contact with the ground 50 - 100 years unprotected outdoors 100 - 150 years Protected outdoors
