Rembrand Timber

About Rembrand Timber

Rembrand Timber was founded in 1982 by Managing Director George Low to create a specialised timber company serving customers in North and East Scotland.

George Low had seen the need for a timber company which could respond quickly and effectively to a wide range of clients in the building industry. He also saw the importance of sourcing materials quickly and competitively to provide an efficient, cost-effective service.

At the time, many in the construction industry in Scotland were finding it difficult to locate specialist timber products quickly because of poor stocking and slow response from timber merchants in those days. We were determined to establish a new culture of complete customer service, with
the best advice from experts, fast-track delivery and a proactive, customer-led stocking policy.

One of our founding principles was that if a particular item was not being held in our stock, the company would source and deliver the customer’s requirement promptly and cost-effectively. This customer-led approach quickly achieved success.

Head Office

Our early successes included our appointment as sole Scottish Distributor for Eidai, the Japanese owned timber company based in Brazil. Eidai specialises in quality Plywood, Blockboard and door blanks made to conform to British standards. Rembrand Timber chose Eidai because although its products tended to be at the higher end of the price range, the quality was far superior to alternative products and offered very real value for money.

This was followed by another early success when Rembrand Timber was appointed a Scottish Distributor for Norbord, creating the largest partnership in the distribution of Caberboard, Sterlingboard and MDF products in Scotland.

We moved into the joinery market and established a long-standing relationship with the John Carr Group joinery company, today part of the Jeld-Wen organisation. Rembrand Timber is John Carr’s largest private distributor in Scotland. We are also exclusive agents for Traryd Fönster triple glazed windows.

Today we have an annual turnover of more than £30 million and a workforce of more than 100, our own distribution service and a growing network of local depots across Scotland, with our headquarters at Shielhill Wood at the hub of the organisation.
